DIED IN HARNESS.
COMMANDER OF THE AQUITANIA ON EVE OF RETIREMENT. (United Press, Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.) Received 12.50 p.m. to-day. LONDON, July 15. Sir James Charles, commander of the Aquitania and commodore of the Cunard Line, died under dramatic circimstances at the end of his seven hundred and twenty-eighth Atlantic crossing, after which he had intended to retire. He became ill when entering Cherbourg, and insisted on staying on the bridge till the ship was berthed. Internal haemorrhage developed when crossing to Southampton, and he arrived unconscious and died in a few minutes. He was knighted for his war services, and carried thousands of troops to France from America.
