ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
ELDERLY WOMAN’S DEATH. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, .July 11. Miss Ellen Alarm, who with her sister was taken to the hospital on Alonday morning suffering from burns as a result of the fire at her brother’s residence in York Place, died this afternoon. An inquest will be held tomorrow. Her brother was burned to death attempting to rescue her after he had rescued his other sister, an invalid.
SKELETON UNIDENTIFIED
PALMERSTON N., July 12. The identity of a skeleton found on the banks of the Manawatu River at Awapuni in April is still shrouded in mystery. , •
At the inquest this morning the police gave evidence to the effect that all inquiries had failed to produce anything likely to establish who the deceased was. All persons reported missing from this district during recent years have been accounted for. A verdict was returned that death was due to unknown causes.
FATAL MOTOR OAR ACCIDENT. PAHIATUA, July 12. The death occurred last evening as the result of an accident of Donald Urquhart Gunn, an elderly married man. The deceased had attended the wedding of his daughter Jessie at Kohinui. After a reception held at the Mangatainoka Hall, the bridal party motored to Wootlville, andi the deceased followed in another car driven by his son-in-law, Goorere Heni-y Withers, a surfaceman, residing at Featherston. There were also in the car Mrs. Withers and child, Mrs. Ross and Miss Ross (Masterton), and Mrs. Runclle (Nireaha). The deceased was sitting in the hack seat. As the car was going down a slope between Mangatainoka- and Ngawapunia, the rear right-hand rim and tyre came off, causing the wheel to skid in the loose metal and to collapse. The car turned a complete somersault, and all the: occupants were thrown out with the exception of Mrs. Ross. The deceased succumbed to his injuries at the public hospital shortly, after admission. Mrs. Withers and Airs. Ross were taken to
hospital suffering from injuries. The remainder of the car party were bndlv bruised. Mesdames Ross 'and Withers have regained consciousness, and l are suffering from shock. Mrs. Runclle is now nt. her daughter’s place at Mangatainoka:, and is l also: grentlv suffering from shock. The deceased was 1 about 56 years of age.
