The most serious accident of recent years on the East India railways occurred last night, eight miles outside of Howrah. Already 13 are dead and 32 injured. The cause was the derailment of the engine near a culvert, resulting in the front brake van and two passenger carriages being telescoped. The locality is within the strike area The theory that’ it was the work of strikers is being examined.
