AUROA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The Auroa School Committee tendered a farewell social to Mr. and Mi’s. Thomas Austin and family last week on the eve of their departure for Eawhitiroa. These residents have been very helpful in the district during their four years’ residence, for Mr Austin has always been ready with his _ aceordeon to supply extras, and at times the whole of the music, at social functions, as well as assisting on committees connected with public affairs. Mrs. Austin has been a great worker in social and church functions. In stressing the above qualities of the guests Mr. T. Kilpatrick, chairman, asked Mr. and Mrs. Austin to accept a case of tableware with the best wishes oi the district for their future success. Dancing was indulged in until long past midnight, Mrs. and Mr. H. Woods supplying the music, while Messrs A. F. Kruse and E. F. Sandford acted as M.C.’s. During; the evening Mr Woods rendered several songs, and at the conclusion all sang, “Auld Lang Syne.” The social committee also deputed Messrs T. Kilpatrick and H. H. Buxton to present Mrs. P. Cameron with a- small token of esteem ere she left the district.

ANNIVERSARY TEA. Last Wednesday’s anniversary tea was exceptionally well attended; in fact is eclipsed all those of latter years. The musical programme was thoroughly enjoyed, while the Rev. Orchard kept the children in high glee with various organised games, EUCHRE PARTIES. In spite of the wet weather quite a number of people patronised the euchre party on Wednesday night. The games resulted in Mr. J. Millar winning the men’s prize and Miss B. Bigham winning the lady’s prize. BOWLING CLUB. At the general meeting of the above club on Friday afternoon, general satisfaction with last year’s results was expressed by the president, Mr. A. C. Johnstone. The meeting formally inspected the green, and as a result a “working bee” was arranged for this afternoon to give the necessary interseason’s treatment. .Several other matters dealing with improvements to pavilion and surroundings were also discussed, but were left in abeyance until the annual meeting.
