BURIAL OF VICTIMS.
A SORROWING VILLAGE. SCENES AT THE! FUNERAL. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegrap'o Copyright.) —United Service). Received 1.50 p.m. to-day. LONDON, July 1. Sixty thousand coining from neighbouring districts.' lined, the village street at Mettoniehole, where there were many families bereaved, while the flower-cowered coffins; of nine women victims of the Darlington disaster were carried to the little church. A guard of honour, composed of members. of the Mothers’ Union solemnly saluted the coffins in the churchyard. There were thousands of mourners. The vicar, the Rev. F. Smith, whose wife was .still in hospital with another of the injured, were sole survivors of the whole party of seventeen. He conducted the service. Women’s sohs resounded through the cliiurch and many oollajpsed with emotion. There were pitiful scenes at .the cemetery where .three wore buried in one grave. Neighbours and friends have taken care of twenty-four motherless children .
