Saturday’s Football
Secondary Schools’ Match
TARANAKI CLUB GAMES HAWERA BEATEN IN EXCITING MATCH STRATFORD WIN AT WAITARA A crowd of 3000 at Hawera Showgrounds witnessed the principal Rugby attraction on Saturday, when the New Plymouth Boys’ I-ligh School proved superior in all phases to a lighter side representing the Wanganui Technical College and ran out the winners by twenty points to three. A feature of the play was the failure of the much discussed three-two-three scrum formation which was adopted by Wanganui, but seldom gave them the ball. As a curtain-raiser the Opunake and Hawera seniors gave an exciting exhibition, the honours going to the coastal team by a single point in the last few moments. On their own ground Okaiawa took a 21 to nil decision from Waimate. The other southern fixture, Pat?a v. Athletic, was postponed till July 18. Junior grade fixtures in the southern division were postponed. In the north the champions, Stratford, added another to their long list of successes by defeating Clifton. Inglewood, which had previously lost only to Stratford, had to split the championship points with Star, while Tukapa got «. narrow decision from Okato, and Old Boys romped home from Eltham.
