Steven and Mis n. E. Abraham, of Stratford. That girl guiding can be made into a dchghtiul game while never losing sight oi its principles oi character tunning, handicrafts, physical health and Semite, was amply demonstrated oy Miss uurgin in her system of train* mg. The day began at 7.45 with colours and prayer, and then' came breakast. orderly inspection, session for instructional work, and dinner at 12.3 U. Tiiis was ioiknved by one hour lor rest during which all work was laid aside and Cinders were free to lie down. 0.00 to 0.30 was freo time, and tiiis was followed by a iurther instructional session. After tea, which was at (1, the Court of Honour sat and the evening was spent in active session consisting of games, country dancing and .amp tire. The Guide good-night song “Taps” ended the day, when lights were put out and silence soon brought restful sleep. The weather for the time of year was excellent, there being no day when activities could not.he carried on out of doors. Instruction was given t>n methods o: teaching tenderfoot, second-class and lirst-class work, and on spooring and tracking, the method oi taking casts being explained and tarried out. An exciting tracking game aas played on one afternoon and an all-day hike with patrol lircs and outdoor cookery proved an enjoyable adventure. That it was possible to cope with rain and wet ground and damp wood was amply proved by the excellent meal which was prepared ol grilled sausages, angels on horseback twhich lor the sake of the uninitiated it may bo as well to explain arc wedges of cheese wrapped in bacon and toasted on the ends of long sticks), damper twists and excellent billy tea. On the last o. ening various “stunts’’ were given by the Guiders after camp fire, including dumb charades, topical songs and a Maori welcome to the provincial president, Mrs D. K. Morrison. The friendship and co-operation that exists between the two organisations of the Girl Guiders and Roy fcjcouts was shown in a. particularly thoughtful manner by Major Sand lord and his Scouts, wiio arrived one evening with a load of wood. The committee of New Plymouth ladies and the camp secretary. Miss J. Home, showed their kindly interest by gifts of home-made cakes, vegetables, coal, and by arranging transport to and from the New Plymouth station. Thanks are also clue to the ladies who lent their beach • ullages. Mesdamcs Steven and Abraham.
As a mark of appreciation from the Guiders who attended the camp. Miss Uurgin was presented with a complete toilet hold-all of red kid, and Airs. Steven, who- acted as quartermaster, was given a crystal vase. Before Miss Rurgin’s departure an opportunity was made to take her to the New- Plymouth mountain house, and although the mountain was wrapped in cloud and mist, the drive and the many views of forest-land and sunlit plains below were much enjoyed by all. On Thursday Aliss Burgin conducted a company evening at the New Plymouth Girls’ High School, when patrol loaders and their guiders were present
from the High School. New Plymouth Central, and To Alar 3. companies. Among the guiders who were- able to participate in the training were representatives from New Plymouth. Stratford. Hawern, Alokoia, Patca, and Alton:
