OPERA HOUSE, TO-NIGHT
FINAL SCREENING
‘OPEN RANGE.”
Characterisations in most Western pictures seem to be east in a common mould. There’s always a handsome, up-standing hero; a pretty, old-fash-ioned , girl, and a dastardly "villain. •Open Range,” which opened at the Grand Theatre last night, seems to be the exception. Here is a story irom the pen of Zane Grey that is unique in that its central characters act like human beings. And moreovei, it is probably the most thrilling picture ever made from a Zane Grey novel. Miss Bronson, making her initial appearance in a Western, appears as the belle ot Marco a tiny frontier town. Chandler, a new cowboy “find,” is a happy-go-lucky puncher who makes up his mind to marrv the girl who has posed as "Miss Marco” on the silver anniversary poster. However, I ted Kohler, the half-breed villain, has other ideas on the subject, and needless to say he does everything in his power to prevent Chandler from accomplishing his purpose. The big punch in the picture comes in the last reel. Indians attack the town of Marco, where lives the heroine, and they are driven out onij when the hero stampedes a herd ol -attle into the town. Two News Reels and a Krazy Kat Cartoon, a fecemc and a Comedy complete the bill. The programme will finally be screened this evening. The next change will be the great racing drama ‘ ‘ln Old Kentucky.
