in the 11 aweia Court by Sergeant J. Henry to-day, wiien eleven charges of breathe® of the regulation were dealt with. The Sergeant al-sio called, attention to the practice adopted by many cyclists of pUaci.ng the reflector under the saddle! in such a position that it was not clearly visible and so did not comply with, the- regulation. “It is proposed to-rigidly enforce the regulation .and it is to be hoped that a general warning: will lie accepted as the result of the present prosecutions,” said: the Sergeant. The breaches in respect of whicli the eleven charge® were made to-day, occurred on thoroughfares in the early evening on dates between June 14 and 21, and lour of the defendants were also charged with riding without lights. Jack Beamish, John William Corey, Carol Barnes, Hby Willis, Donald Campbell, John. Foster and; Neil Richard Patterson were each fined 10s, and ordered) to pay 10s easts. A boy named George Elvans, who was charged on dual counts with riding a bicycle without the rear reflector and without lights was convicted and discharged on the first count and fined 15s and IBs costs on the second. ■Ronald K. Barren and; Nora Thom--1 in-son, who were also charged rvith the two offence® Avere each fined 10s and 10s costs for failing to have the reflector fitted and .01 10s coats- .for riding without lights.
“You must have a proper lamp. A torch is 'no good,” said the magistrate to a youth D'onis Bad cock, who in pleading guilty to two similar charges, said he sometime® carried a torch. He further stated- he had previously had a reflector on hi.s hi cycle. lit this case the charges were adjourned until the afternoon, the magistrate intimating that if in the meantime defendant satisfied the police that he had arranged for a proper -lamp and reflector the facts would be taken into consideration bv the court.
