VALEDICTORY.
WORTHY SETTLERS HONOURED. PRESENTATIONS AT PALMER ROAD. Ivaponga has always been noted, for, genuine good fellowship, more especially so when the time comes to bid farewell to old and respected residents of the locality. In a purely dairying district, such as Kaponga, leave takings are of common occurrence and the attendance of well-wishers at every sendoff usually taxes the capacity of the departing settler’s dwelling. The apex of spontaneity, however, must -surely have been reached last night, when upwards of seventy friends assembled at the residence of Mr. Dan. Anglesey, Palmer Road, to pay their respects to Air. and Mrs. Anglesey and family and to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ritter and family on the eve of their departure from the neighbourhood. Air. Anglesey has been a resident of Palmer Road for ten years, while Mr. Ritter first took up his farm in the same locality fifteen years ago. The former is yet undieided as to his future movements, but Air. Ritter has definitely decided to lease his farm, in consequence of ill-health, to live in retirement at, New Plymouth. On behalf of the friends - assembled Air. Con Crowley, in a nedt speeeh, brimful of good wishes for future welfare, presented Air. and Airs. Anglesey with a chiming clock, and Mr.- and Mrs. Ritter with a combined tea and dinner service. Air. Crowley referred to the genuine neighbourly' attributes of Alessrs. Anglesey and Ritter, of whom it could .justly be said, all held the highest opinion. : Air T. Hammersley then presented Al’iss Iris Ritter with a -toilet set, on be. half of the Kaponga Tennis Club, of 'which Aliss Ritter was a prominent member during the past season. In acknowledgment of the tokens of esteem in which they, are hold, the recipients severallv voiced their regret in being coin pel led to sever the happy ties which have held them to the district for so long, ; and assured those present that their gifts would ever remind them of Palmer Road and! its people. Supper was served by the ladies of the party, -after which music, song and story in” one room, dancing in another and' sundry euchre * ‘fours ”" in every other available room in the', house furnished ample amusement for the big throng until well after midnight, Alessrs L. Bolton (piano) and John AfcLennan (violin) contributed the dance music and Air Raymond Fever efficientlv carried out- the duties of M.C.
