POULTRY INDUSTRY.
THE SHOW AT PALMERSTON NORTH. TARANAK 1 SUCCESSES. The display of poultry at the Palmerston North Show was considered by the .-judges as excellent, the penning ■of birds in every section and in game birds being one of the strongest held there for some years. North Taranaki breeders scored well in Minoreas, Mr. J. H. Hawkins (Now Plymouth) getting first for hen and second for cockerel. In English Leghorns W. Jones (New Plymouth) got a first for white and brown' hen and pullet, and F. Weston (-Stratford) first for brown cockerel. J. K. Hawkins also Scored special for best utility Orpington cockerel and W. Jones for fancy Leghorn. At the annual smoke concert the Government expert (Mr. F. C. Brown) congratulated the association on its show, which was undoubtedly a credit to those who had put their work into it. The basis of the industry was undoubtedly the show Bird. They could and should combine beauty with utility. He -was more than gratified with the progress that had been made in the poultry industry. He anticipated a record year for export, but more ■organisation was wanted. Ho could, however, see a bright future.
