STABILISATION PROJECTS. WIN TOR M. POINCARE. A POLITICAL SURPRISE. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.)

PARIS, June 21. The Chamber of Deputies was crowded to-day to fate one of the surprises so frequent in the political life of 1< ranee.

It was reliably reported that At. Poincare had inlormed his colleagues in the Cabinet that in consequence oj the quarrels which have broken out following upon the Ministerial appointments and the lack or union in the new Chamber, he intended to resign ,as soon as the stabilisation of the franc was accomplished. The belief was general that next week would see the end of the Ministry, but consultation with the Rightists, who were dissatisfied with the appointments from the Left, modified his fears.

M. Poincare directly he opened his stabilisation speech, flung out a challenge to the Chamber to remove the Government, if it wished to do so, directly the stabilisation measures were passed, but he asked that nothing should happen until this was done. The applause showed that his request was approved. It is generally agreed that M. Poincare, within four hours, gained a victory more complete than was anticipated, and that he will obtain the required majority. M. Poincare declared amid applause: “1 do not think the present war debt arrangements with the United States and Britain can be ratified without reservat ions.”
