AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION.

SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING

INSURANCE SCHEME APPROVED

A general meeting of the South Taranaki Automobile Association was held last evening in the Hawera Borough Council Chambers, Mr. D. J. Malone presiding over a fair number of members. The- following were also present: Messrs. W. A. Spragg, R. H. Lecce, G. J. Bayley, S. C. Tonbs, J. A. Duffill, W. O’Callaghan, C. Moore, A. R. Masters, G. A. Carter, S. Ward, A. J. Barr, and W. G. Walklev (,secretary). The. meeting discussed at some length the proposed mutual motor insurance scheme, as outlined at a previous meeting a fortnight ago by Mr. C. R. C. Robieson.

The report submitted with reference to the insurance s-henie was read by the secretary. Considerable discussion of the scheme, ended in general support- of all members. Mr. O’Callaghan moved and Mr. Bayley seconded a motion that the nrevious resolution which was carried be approved, viz.: “That this meeting of the South Taranaki Automobile Association approve of the mutual insurance '.scheme as explained by Mr. Xlobi-e-son. «'nT>je i ct to coniirmation at- a special or general meeting of members."’ This wa.s adopted. CORR LOS BONDENCE. In response to the deputation which waited upon the Minister of Justice in regard to the remits passed at the half-yearly and annual meetings in respect to stolen cars, a letter was received from the secretary of the North Island Motor Union enclosing tlie' leport of the deputation. A further letter was also received enclosing report of the deputation which waited upon the Minister of Railways with regard to level crossing obstructions. It was proposed that a. further deputation should wait on the general manager of the Railway Department- to again urge' that the Railway Department and local authorities should eo-operate to bring about the desired results.

Referring to the Ball Road crossing, the meetnig decided to write to the Patea County Council for its co-opera-tion in approaching the Railway Department for some relief in the matter.

It was also decided to urge the Elthnm County Council to put Anderson Road, at the junction of Mountain Road, in repair, its present state being a menace to motorists. The hedge at Normanby crossing also came in for much adverse criticism, and it was resolved to approach the County Council with a view to having the corner put in order. A letter was received from Mr. F. W. Furkert, engineer-in-chief. Public Works Department, dealing with spotlights on motor vehicles. The letter was received. Air. J. G. Niehol wrote dealing with the question of publishing a paper describing the- beauty spots and chief localities which would be of the most interest to tourists while doing the South Taranaki district, the information to he sent to the broadcasting companies for the convenience of motorsts.

It was decided to thank Mr. Niehol for his suggestion, and it was resolved to communicate with the various wireless companies operating in New Zealand with a view to ascertaining the 1 cost of broadcasting the information throughout Australia and New Zealand. It was resolved to arrange for _ a. stall and exhibit at the forthcoming winter show. GENERAL. On the motion of Mr. Ward, seconded by Air. Carter, it was decided to urge'the local authorities to provide all traffic inspectors throughout the Taranaki province, with, uniforms. It was advocated that inspectors in uniform carried more dignity and their duties were made much lighter. Considerable discussion ensued with reference to membership fees. It was resolved to fix the. fee' at £1 11s 6d from February 1, which would carry subscribers to* the end of the financial year, and from June the fee to he £1 Is.

It was moved by Air. Carter, seconded by Air. Ward, that a. subcommittee, comprising the president, secretary, Alessrs. S. C. Tonks and W. O’Callaghnn, be appointed to go into the question of revising the rules' of the association on the lines of a. management committee comprised of representatives from all branches, and that, if necessary, notice of motion he given in time for the annual meeting. Tlie motion was canned.

It w r as decided to organise a drive during show week to enroll new members.

The secretary informed the meeting that the membership notv totalled 722. and four new members were enrolled during the day.
