A SCOTCH NIGHT.
MR. AND AIRS. CAMPBELL HONOURED.
Probably the most 'successful social evening vet held by the Hawera Scottish Society’ was that of last night, when members foregathered to welcome home Mr and-Mrs J. E. Campbell- after t-ber long torn- of various parte of the world. Chieftain W. G. Simpson presided. and the Foresters’ Hall was packed to the doors. When the guests of the- evening entered. a bouquet was presented to Mrs Campbell by Mrs G. Taylor, senr. The event of the evening was a talk on his travels by Mr Campbell, and he took his hearers in imagination with him from London through Southern Europe- and out to the East, and spoke most interestingly, on people he had met and places he had seen. With due pomp and ceremony, the haggis was piped in, Drum-Major Nairn carrying the dish, and Mr D. McCormick reciting the ode. Supper was supplied by the ladies of the society. Du' ring the evening songs were given by Miss Johnson, Messrs Aekroyd, and McQuln, and a duet by Messrs Lamb and Aekroyd, accompaniments being played bv Mrs L. A. Taylor and Miss D. Joll. A iseries of pretty dance® were given by little pupils of Miss J. McLaohlan. The evening concluded with an hour s dancing. . .
