HODGKINSON’S BODY FOUND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 20. The body of the missing man Hodgkirisen was found by a party which went out to the Orongorongo station from Petone this morning. He had apparently died of exposure. FARM WORKER FOUND DEAD. , INVERCARGILL, June 20. IVben the employer of James Connor, a. single farm labourer, aged' 38, called at the latter’s hut at Apirima, on Tuesday to ascertain why he had not continued work, he found the door locked from the inside. A® there was no response to his knock, he broke open the door, and found Connor lying dead on the bed' with a mug containing strychnine and water alongside l it. It- is stated that on Monday last Connor called at the farmhouse of E. J. Dickson and complained of the. prevalence of mice in his liut. He asked for some strychnine to poison the nests. He was given a bottle of poison in powdered form, and was warned to be careful. An inquest was opened to-day and adjourned for further inquiries to he made. MINER CRUSHED TO DEATH. INVERCARGILL, June 20. A distressing fatality occurred in the Linton coal mine at Nightcaps to-dav. when Gavin Cockburn, single, aged 38, an experienced worker in the mine, was cmsbefl to death by a heavy fall of coal. At the time of the accident Cockburn was working on “tops,” removing the roofing of the mine to allow tbo' loose coni to fall, when the roof collapsed and he was buried' under some 200 tors of coal. Other workers immediately made henziod attempts to dig away the r -or>l. hut two hours el nosed liefore the bodv ■vns recovered. The unfortunate mindhad been fearfully crushed, mauv bon°s being broken. The work on which he vast engaged is generally regarded as being dangerous, and would be unde?--tnkon onlv hv experienced men.
