In the test trial cricket match at Lord’s against the English XI., the Rest of England an their first innings made 307 runs, including Jardine 48, O ’Connor 48, Staples 38 no't out, Nichols 38. t
The play Was not reassuring; the howling was un'convineing. The wicket was dead after Thursday’s rain. Larwood was the only successful man with ■the ball, though such a pitch did not suit hint.
iSix wickets were down for 133, then Ames and O’Connor added 71 in 45 ■minutes.
England’s fielding was excellent, but Chapman’s was ordinary. Hobbs made his first appearance since he tore a leg muscle ten days ago, but the exertion of fielding renewed the trouble before lunch, though lie hopes to bat on Monday.
