THE “BROWNIES.”
SECOND BIRTHDAY PARTY CELEBRATIONS. The Brownies of Hawera district celebrated their second birthday on Saturday, when they were entertained by ihe Giiii Guides at a gathering in St. Ma.rv’s iiailil. Mns lit. A. Paoey presided, and there was a large assembliage, including Airs Houston, Commissioner for Taranaki; Mrs Henderson and Miss R. Ha when, district commissioners, Airs Winks and Mrs Morris. The Hja/wera and Mokoia companies were present in full force. The visitors were greeted with the “Grand Howfl,” Afternoon tea was served, while games were organised for the little ones. An interesting ceremony was the promotion of Brownie M. .Hlawken from Brownies to Gulders in the time honoured “flying up ’ function. Airs Houston delighted the Brownies by reading to them an interesting letter front Miss D. Corrigan, with special messages to the little people. The birthday cake was presented by the Guides and at the conclusion the Brownies cordially thanked the Guides and gave three hearty cheers.
