HAWERA HOSPITAL.
WORK OF 1 ADMINISTRATION,
MEETING OF THE BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Hawera Hospital Board was held to-day. There were present: Messrs J.. S. McKay (chairman), E. J. Gifford, M. C. Gnigliton, J. J. Meldon, E. A, Washer, A. G. Larcom, J. L. Campbell, T. A. Winks, G. W. Tayler, F. Gillandens. The medical superintendent (Dr. J. Oairney) reported that 99 patients were admitted during Miay. Ninety-four were discharged or died and 73 remained in hospital on May 31. The daily average of occupied beds for the month was 65.4, compared with 63.4 for the two preceding months and) 55.9 for 'the same period last year. The average l to eaidh of the nursing staff was 2.2. Twenty-three hospital and 14 private X-ray cases had been, dealt with. The number of outpatients attended during the month was 17. Six patients had been in hospital for eight weeks, or more. The matron, Miss E. M. Nutsey, reported (inter alia) that Nurses Morgan, Hen,wood and Hoiddiinott had passed the second year examination with credit. Nurse E. M. Nicholson would be returning to take up tlie position of staff nurse for six months on July 1, as arranged in March. Miss Monica, Beeehey commenced duty on May 13. Miss Boulter had been called up from the waiting list and commenced duty on June 2. The Hawera Male Choir gave an enjoyable concert to the _ patients during the month, and the Pipe Band also gave a programme of music. The matron of the Old People’s Home (Mrs M. Laing) reported there were 21 in the home. Donations as follow were thankfully received: Miss Oaplen (playcards), Messrs-Elliott and Sturroak (fruit),) Mrs Travis (papers). Social evenings were held by the Salvation Army, Boys Club, Rangers and Girl Guides, all being very much enjoyed The farm manager (Mr H. J. Webber) reported that milk and vegetables bad been supplied to tlie hospital and the Old People’s Home to the value ot £36. The report of the finance committee covering routine affairs of the month was adopted. , r „, Messrs Campbell , La,room and Meldon were appointed,.as- the visiting commatteo for the month. . w The resignations of Staff Nurse \\ . Smith and Nurse H. Chatter ton were -SV R. G. Bradford, of Anroa, was approved for inclusion on the waating list of probationers.
