THE CASTLE PLEDGE.

I oromise to smile every time I can, and to chase all the frowns into the dark cave, where the Smile Giant -will kiU them with his Magic Sword Happiness.

MY Dear Smiles,— How are you fill this week? It has been so cold hasn’t it? I think of you each evening sitting round a big fire sewing or reading or telling fairy stories, a lovely occupation on a winter’s night.

This week I am going to tell about the Smile Castle. Our Smile page is becoming ever more popular, and I often hear groAvn up people remark how interesting some of your letters are at times. I like to hear all about your pets and to help you to choose names for them. Noav some of the Smiles have been asking in their letters hoAv many Ave have on our roll. It is astonishing how large the roll has become. We started the Smile page about three and a half years ago and now we have three hundred and sixty-seven names on the roll. What a large family we have become, and Avhat a lot of birthdays I have to lemember! I often Avonder whether I forget at any time to announce any of your birthdays on the Smile page. If I do, I Avish you to Avrite and tell me. In the last three weeks, Ave have had such a lot of neAv Smiles. There is a record number of letters on the page this Aveek, a batch of about sixteen from the Whareroa School.

I expect most of you Avill be going to the Winter Show next-week, and I trust you will tell me all about Avhat you did, and what you enjoyed most of all. I knoAV there will be merry-go-rounds and ocean Avaves and all sorts of games and lovely things to eat. I hope lots of you Avill get prizes for your entries as it is great fun seeing your 0A\ r n Avork labelled “First Prize” or second or third. See that you have a thoroughly good and happy time and don’t forget to be good children and try not to worry your mother and fathers by running aAvav and getting lost in our huge show buildings. Best love to you aIL Yours affectionately, SMILE QUEEN.
