HISTORY OF THE TRACK. News was received this week to the effect that Ivayo Don liad raised the iSrooiclands fap record to 131.7 m.p.h for the 2'i mile circuit. The previous record of 129.7 m.p.h. ivas created by the late Parry Thomas with a Leylaud special in 1925. _ In spite of the developments and improvements i" stability Thomas' record has stoou For three years and there is little doubt that iu raising u by 2 m.p.h. Sunbeam with which he established the mass record of 113* m.p.h. for 100 mile s in April Until recently, Don has been a. sponsor of the smaller class of lacing machine. In 1926 he held over a dozen international records for two cylinder cycle cars. His 100 miles ai. C2.S m p.h with an Avro-Jap iwj cylinder outfit 13 still unbeaten in ts class. .It is wc rlli y of note that Brooldamis trac-k is just 21 years old and is considered obsolete from the record breaker’s point of view. Brooklands was opened on .1 une 1/, 1907, and it cost about hi 50.000 The width is 100 ft. and the tanking varies from 1 in 25 to I in 30. The first interesting event n the history of the track occurred on Juno 28 and 29, 1907. when S. F. bilge on a Nil pier six-cylinder car' covered 1582 indes in 24 hours.
