THE GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY. VARIATION IN CONDITIONS. [by TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION-! WELLINGTON. Jime 9. The Prime Minister, the lit. Hon. J. G. Coates, stated to-day that the Government had decided to vary the conditions applying o the payment of subsidies to local bodies in respect o-f approved works undertaken for relief of unemployment. The conditions obtaining last year null be varied to provide that a subsidy on wages up to the- rate of 12s and 9s per day -shall be paid on all. labour, irrespective of what proportion the labour forms, of the total- cost of the undertaking ana irrespective of the- GO ner cent minimum which formerly applied. It was also decided that cartage and transport specially used on ouch worries hall h? .subsidised for drivers up to 12s and 9s per day and £1 for £1 on the actual running cost of vehicles.
