Ati the present time there' is a keen demand for shingle and sand for concrete, also for road metal, the contractors being! kept busy at the beach to cope with the demand. Owiing hoi hire recent heavy seas there is ail extreme shortage of the sorts required, especially boulders for crushing for road repairs toi be put an hand very shortly. The. moderate seas enabled the fishing fleet to make two trips during the week. On Tuesday last the Raurirno went out under the command of Capt. P. Luke, wit})! the following orew: H. Alaboe, Al. Ranui. J. Awahou sour., C. Alorehu junr., W. 'Alorehu sem*., and AY. A wallow. junr. The catch for the. day was only fair, owing to the heavy swell. The motor launch Raumiiro, under the command of Captain W. Kingi, of Otafeeho. nuadle a successful trip, on Wednesday last. The members of the crew were: Al'ctor-engineer J. Coffy, J. Rahaisenr., Al. Ranui, J. Awahou , s enr., H. Mato©, E. Tiippet, P. Dulse. Gate. AAd Alorehu sera*., Hana., B. Awahou jura*.. W. Awahou junr. Tire results of the day’s catch was 113 schnappe.r, 3 shark, 4 kahawai and 20 cod. Several further big slips took place during the last few days at the Domain cliff, leaving it at present in a dangermi, s position. There i s very little change in the position of thle Waingongciro River. Mr Rah a li'a.s a number of native workmen making preparations to renew the boat landing' stage recently demolished by the heavy isea.s and river encroachments. ..... It is understood that it is the intention of the Hawera Countv Council to make an early start with, the repairs of the Oh awe roads. The recent heavy rains have left the roads in a very had state.
