Strong opposition was evinced by representatives to a Bill authorising the Commonwealth to appropriate .halt a million sterling as its share of th© expenditure for the Australian British Empire Exhibition of 1932. Federal and State members alike were not enthusiastic tor fear of a iruge loss. It was declared that there were far better ways oi advertising Australia.

The Prime Minister indicated that it would be highly likely that the Bill would be dropped and, the exlubition abandoned.
