HEAVY LOSSES CAUSED
UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH-COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN PRESS ASSOCIATIONUNITED SERVICE.) Received 10.15 a.m. to-day. LONDON, June 2.
Great damage lias been done in the vineyards in Geramny by frost, which has been the most widespread and- destructive since 1871. On the Moselle the damage is said to amount from 70 to 90 per cent. In the Ruhr district the yield is not expected to exceed 10 per cent of the average, and the Saar district 25 per cent. So serious is the loss that the Reichstag member for one of the affected districts has- appealed to the Government to remit taxes for those affected- and to grant loans at low rates of interest to enable vine growers to repair their losses.'
