GOOD PROSPECTS ON THE
CONTINENT
UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—BY ELF/TOI TELEGRA PH—COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN pnr.SS ASSOCIATIONUNITED SERVICE.) Received 10.15 a .'in. to-ilay.
LONDON, June 2.
Prices for apples are well 'maintained, despite the very heavy arrivals from Australia • ah-di New Zealand. The demand all over the-country is active under the influence of fine hot (weather, which naturally makes people want fruit.
The Contim-enta’l demand is also strong and the experiment in transhipping several thousands of cases -of Australian fruit- to Antwerp met with considerable success. Undoubtedly the Continental markets can absorb a considerable, quantity of Australian and -Now Zealand fruit. Several of them would: like direct shipments. This- is- -worth consideration toy the shippers in future years, hut care must bo- taken not to overdo the shipments. Not many years ago a parcel of Tasmanian apples had to too reshipped to London from Ha-m'burg, owing to the glut there.
