A London Press cable message states that the Bishop of Ripon ordained Lawrence Neville Watkixis, an Aucklander, to the parish church at Leeds.

Mr. Don. -Stewart, of Norinanby, was a passenger by this morning’B mail train on liis way -to C’hris'tehureto to officiate as judg*e at the forthcoming Cancrbury Poultry Show, which, opens next Thursday.

Mr P. O. Veale, scientist of the Hawera -dairy laboratory, left this morning by the mail -train en route to Dunedin, where he -is to -give a. lecture to the South Island Dairymen’s Conference on Wednesday evening.

A London message says that owing to health reasons the lit. Hon. J. H. Whitley, Liberal member for Halifax, retires irom the Speakership of the House of Commons on June 19, and it is expected he will resign his seat a tew days .later. Mrs F. Bowler, who toas -been on the staff of the Hawera High School as a relieving teacher in the home science department, was -given a farewell on Thursday on the eve of her departure from the -school, presentations being made toy the. staff members- and pupils. Miss B. Earle, whom Mrs Bowler has been relieving during the former's trip to Europe, is expected' to return this month. -

.. .. Mr ..Cyril'Herbert Blundell, of . Dawson Street, collapsed and died suddenly while playing billiards in the Taranaki Club at New Plymouth on Saturday evening. Dr. P- C. Davie was summoned hurriedly, but could only pronouince life extinct. At an inquest the verdict was that death was due to cerebial haemorrhage. A son of the late Mr Henry Blundell, proprietor of the “Wellington Evening Post,” .Mr Cyril Blundell was born in Wellington 48 years ago. He received his secondary education at Wellington College and -subsequently practised as a dentist. Thirteen years ago be went to Tasmania to commence fruit farming at Launcestor. Two- years ago he retired, and it was only last February that' he came to New Plymouth to settle.
