FLAME THROWERS.
NEW USE FOR THEM. CAPTAIN WILKINS’S PROPOSAL. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Received 2.5 p.m. to-day. BERLIN, May 31. Captain Wilkins states that he proposes to use flame throws in the Antarctic in order to melt the ice and to make a smooth track for the aeroplane to rise, thus overcoming the greatest difficulty of polar flight. The Versailles Treaty forbids Germany to make flame throwers, hut Captain Wilkins proposes to ask the Allied Governments to consent to the amnufacture of a few.
