SENSATION AT NEW PLYMOUTH
YOUNG MAX’S TRAGIC END. DISCOVERED SHOT IN BEDROOM. A shocking fatality occurred in New Plymouth yesterday afternoon, when Bruce Thompson, employed in the Lands and Survey Department at New Plymouth, was shot dead in his bedroom. Thompson had received frightful injuries, his head being practically blown away. A 303 rifle was lying beside the body when discovered. Deceased, age was given as 19, apparently left his office at tlie usual time after work and proceeded straight to a house belonging to Mrs Watson, in Vivian Street, where he was a boarder. He entered the house soon after 5 p.m., and a few minutes later a shot was heard, the young man being found dead immediately afterwards. A-s far as is known, his health had been quite sound.
The parents of deceased live at Ormond, a township about twelve miles out of Gisborne. He was educated at the Gisborne Boys’. High School, and came to New Plymouth about nine months ago on transfer from Gisborne. He was a member of the Old Boys’ Football Club, and also took an interest in running.
