COUNTY POLL CARRIED. [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] PAHIATUA, May 31. The Okitdo County Council bridge rate proposal poll yesterday, for the reconstruction of bridges, was carried by 182 to 84 votes. REDUCTION OF BANK RATE WANTED. WELLINGTON, May 31. The conference of the Royal Agricultural Society to-day carried a remit asking the Associated Banks to remove tjie half per cent, extra imposed last year on bank overdrafts. Mr. Howard Booth said that the rat# was raised when the balance of trade was against Us and now our exports were ahead of our imports, the necessity of a high bank rate had disappeared. POLITICAL. AUCKLAND, May 31. Mr. R. B. Spiens, a member of the United Party executive, has been chosen as the party’s candidate for the Auckland West seat. PATRIOTIC RELIEF WORK.
