Ohangai kicked off and play' for a time was even, till Ohangai got away, G~nea lining well down. Bloor saved and Wliareroa came back up-field, taking play to the corner. From a loose rush jLaurent picked up and dived across to score. The kick failed. Wliareroa 3, Ohangai 0. The blacks went away from the kick-out and gave Wliareroa* a busy time till the latter celared in a loose rush of forwards. Once more the blades attacked, G. Lander and Lee being associated, in a prettv- passing rush. Once more they attacked, and O’Shea, opening up play, sent the ball to G. Lander, and be to Lee, who transferred, to Fislier, and the latter dashed across to even, the scores Wliareroa 3, Ohangai 3. Up and down the field went the play till Wliareroa attacked, and in a loose rush went into Ohangai territory and kept the latter busy defending. Then the blacks cleared, Hunt doing good work, and near halfway having a shot at goal. Whareroa forced. Once agair O’.Shea shot the ball out to his backs, and with the forwards they went downfield to the twenty-live, where Lee had an unsuccessful shot at goal. They continued to open up play till Wliareroa, in a loose rush, went right to the opposing line and Ohangai forced. But Hiey at once set up a hot attack, and near the centre O’Shea shot the ball to G. Lander, who made a pretty dodging run right through, and just on the line passed to Hinga, who scored. J. Lee converted. Ohangai S, Wliareroa 3. In the second spell Ohangai went away with line dash, and 11 ines was prominent in a pretty run which took play well up field. O’Shea carried- it on, but Pepperell .relieved with a good kick and play centred. Ohangai were pressed just afterwards, and G. Lander saved very cleverly in an awkward place. Ohangai went on in a. forward rush, and about balf-wav G. Lander secured and after a nice, dash kicked high and followed up fast. The opposing full-back mulled, and- Lander, taking, get over to score a. welldeserved try. Ohangai 11, Wliareroa 6 From the kick-out, Wliareroa worked downfield, where a good opening was lost through bad handling. They got a- penalty kick just afterwards, and G. Murphy goaled with a remarkably fine kick.' Ohangai 11, Wliareroa 6. ‘ Ohangai rushed down from the Kickoff, and Fisher, securing, put in a pretty and effective run and passed to G*. Lander, who took play to the corner. A free kick gave Wliareroa relief, and then they set np a- series of hot forward attacks, in which they rail over their opponents. But Ohangai replied , and. in a dashing rush of forwards- and hacks Fisher got over the line, but did not score. They con-

tinued to press, and in a good position Lee marked and nearly goaled. Wliareroa. replied with vigour, and- a oreat struggle took place in midfield. Savage, had a shot at goal, _and Wliareroa forced. Fisher ju-st afterwards made a brilliant run, and w as forced out near the corner. Lee. seemed from the line-out and made a nice dash, but tried to get through and gave away a great opportunity. Whareroa retaliated, and play centred. Again O’Shea opened np play, but Lee nullified- the effort by failing to pass. Then Whai-erea set up a hot forward rush, and took play right to the goal line, and from a penalty in front ot the goal -Murphy failed to convert, an easy” chance missed. _ The Blue, forwards were now running through the Blacks, and several times just failed to score. With three minutes to go they redoubled their efforts ,_ and G. Murphy nearly got over the line. The ball went out and- time was called, leaving the score: Ohangai Wliareroa « Mr. G. Hurley was referee. THE EVENING FUNCTION. PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. The hall was crowded for the ball and presentation of prizes and trophies, and a very jolly evening was spent by all. M.P., who presented the prizes and also brought out the orchestra-. He thanked all who had in any way contributed to the success of the sports gathering. Mr. Dickie said it was a pleasant duty to him, and he congratulated all the" officials and the people of the district on their great _ and successful sports day. He reminded them that now they were part of the electorate of Patea', and said that he hoped- “his event in November” would not be so close as some of tlie races during the day. He said It was a very fine performance to get off the sports so well and- to have so many close finishes; in fact, he added, there were actually four dead heats during the day. He ■heartily congratulated Master S. Kerrisk oil winning the Cann. Clip, and hoped to see him in some future Olympic team. He also commended S. Savage for his performance in being only a point behind- the winner. He then presented the prizes to the successful competitors. Hearty cheers were siren for the officials and for ‘Mr. Dickie, and an

interesting function then concluded, with the dancing. The M’s.C. were Messrs. A. Williams and M. _Reeve, and excellent music was supplied by Barton’s orchestra. A strong ladies committee was responsible for a bounteous supper. . i - -
