BAYLY PARK.
OLD TIME -SPORTS GROUND GOES,
Tihe older residents of Haw era and district will .remember the sports ground in Disraeli Street known as Bayly Park, which was handed over to the Cricket Club by Mr G. T. Bayly (a one-time resident of the district, but latterly resident in Auckland on certain conditions. At that time the ground, which consisted of a greater area than now remains-, boasted of a. grandstand and appointments, also a fenced .sports oval and football playing -area. Many -memorable. contests in cricket, football and athletics were staged on. Bayly Park. Devotees of various branches of sport now regret that an effort was not made to retain -this valuable sports area, but apparently the controlling body found the revenue derived from the ground Was insufficient to maintain it, hence the exit of the then well-known Bayly Pork. The buildings were demolished, the high fence which faced Disraeli St. disappeared, and Bayly Park was relegated, -to its -unimproved -state and used as a cow paddock. Time -has passed and the owner -has decided that Bayly Park must be put to -a- use more 'consistent with its value, and he has decided that the land shall be out up into building sites. Messrs Grant and Co., Hawera, niow offer Bayly Park sections, particulars of which are given in their advertisement in to-day’s “Star.”
