SOUTH TARANAKI ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL MEETING
There was a fairly representative attendance of members present at the annual meeting of the School Committees’ Association of South Taranaki, held in the Okaiawa Town Hall last night. Mr W. Picketts (Eltham) presided, and there were present: Messrs A. Lees, A. Fraser, W. G. Williams, L. Houlahan, J.'E. Mortimer fOkaiawa), .1. 'Cocker (llawhitiroa), A. R. Kemp (Eltham), J. Bakers, A. Gain-' lin, N. G. Edwards, A. E. Sadler (Manaia), W. T. Seed (Matapu), J. W. Harding■ (Hawera). An apology was received from Mr A. K. Eyson. The annual report stated:—Since the last annul meeting held in October, 1927, only one meeting has been held. The association has made representations to the Education Board on several occasions during the last, three years to have a copy of the inspector’s report sent to school committees. An assurance was given that the request would he acceded to, but so 1a r main schools sire not receiving the report. The matter of children who do not gain proficiency ceitilicates being charged tuition fees at secondary schools, and the question of seventh standard classes, were brought forward at the last quarterly meeting. After discussion it was decided to hold these matters over until the annual meeting. The statement of accounts showed that there was a credit balance at the beginning of the year ol £2 17s lid and receipts £4 19s 7d. The expenditure was £2 15s, leaving a credit of £5 2s 6d. On the motion of Air Harding, seconded by AH' Sadler, the report and balance-sheet were adopted. ' ELECTION OF OFFICERS The election of officers resulted: — President, Air W. Rickeths( re-elect-ed), vice-presidents, Mr .1. W. Harding and Mr •!. Cocker ; secretary. Air A. B Kemp; executive, Afessrs A. E. Sprati, A K. hyson, P. Sheahan (llawera). Bridge, Gamlin, Eraser (Alnnnin.), Silver, Avery (Fit ham). Seed. Prestidgc, Harrison (Kaponga). It was resolved that if any of these he unwilling to act, the committees should nominate fresh names. At the conclusion the -ladies of. Okaiawa with the wives of the visiting delegates provided a most welcome supper. A vote of thanks to them and to the chairman concluded the meeting.
