At Te Aroha, Mr. Whitedhureh, a county councillor, was seriously injured when a car which he -was cranking jumped forward, being evidently in gear. MINER KILLED BY FALL OF EARTH. DUNEDIN, May 23 While working in the Shag Point coal mine this morning, William James Robinson was buried under a fall of earth and killed. Robinson, who is a single man, 36 years of age, was erecting some staging in company with a workmate, when six tons of earth fell from abo.e. His workmate jumped clear, receding only a- cut on the head, but Robinson was completely buried. His body was recovered after three hours. DIED AT WORK. DUNEDIN, May 23. John Thomson, residing at Ravensbourne, died suddenly at liis work at McLeod’s soap works this mornipg. Deceased, who was a married man, 55 years of age, had been receiving treatment for heart trouble for some time, A FARM HAND’S DEATH. GISBORNE, May 24. -' That death -was due to fatty degeneration of the heart was the verdict returned by the coroner in the case of George Miller, aged 60, a- farm hand, who was found dead in bed at Matawai.
