The crew of the Melbourne Steamship Company’s steamer Dimboola lias been paid off and the vesesl tied up. The crew will be conveyed by rail back to the ports at which they signed on. A message from Melbourne says that when the conference of the Australian ami New Zealand Council of Trades Unions and the Maritime Unions meets to-morrow certain union officials will demand that the council either definitely remains in charge of the cooks’ dispute, with or .without Mr. Tudehope’s authority, or retires from the dispute altogether. It is now' recognised that the council is on its trial, and if it fails to insist upon its authority to conduct this dispute it will! have been dealt a blow from which it will be unable to recover.
