GOOD' DAIRYING SEASON
[BV TELEGKAPH—PBEBB ASSOCIATION.] HAMILTON, May 19. The.past dairy season in 'the AVaikato was satisfactory, despite tihe drought.in the summer. The total payouts of eleven co-operative companies from August to April 'was £3,593,145, showing an advance of £129,585 over the coi responding period of 1926-27. Whilst the increase is mainly due to better prices, the total season's production is expected to slightly excised lastseason's. Pastures.have recovered splendidly since the drought, Aragely owing to a liberal use of fertilisers, whereon ofarmers ha.ve spent hundreds of tiliousands of pounds. Herd improvements are also responsible for the good yield. WAIKATO WINTER SHOW. HAMILTON, May 19. For the .Waikato Winter Show, opening on May- 29, the entries total 10,056, this l : be)bee a. record and 2447 above last year’s total. A small decrease is noted in the butter and cheese divisions. All show space has been (taken. Special trains for the ©how will include a. farmers’ train from Taranaki. THE lIOOD-MONcirIEF FUND. WELLINGTON, May 19. - Apart from *the sums of some £4OO to Mrs. Moncrieff and Mrs. Hood the fund collected amounts to £1571 nett. At ,a meeting of the committee it v.-as proposed to invest this amount with the Public Trustee in preference to purchasing annuities as first intended, the latter being too expensive. Half of tlfe whole amount wag to’go to Mrs. Moncrieff, mother of the airman, and .the other half to the two _ widows. Opposition was offered to this distribution and on the motion of the Mayor, Mr. G. A. Troup it was determined to ascertain the feeling of the donors of large amounts as to the methods of allocation.
land board repudiates BLAME. CHRISTCHURCH, May 19. At a meeting of the Canterbury Land Board, the following resolution was carried: “That this board regrets that the published reports of two re cent cases inferred- that- the blame, for taking action is on the lands- board -or the Lands Department. This is not the ease, the- hoard’s records being available to the Press to- hear this out.”
The resolution refers to the proceedings’ at the Supreme- Court here, when two returned soldier farmers were charged with breaches of the Chattels Transfer Act.
RECORD FRUIT EXPORT. NELSON, May 19. Tiie overseas fruit export season closed with a new -record for Nelson province of 601,090 cases. The figures for the- province's three shipping ports are: Motueka, 244,000 cases-; Ma-pua. 205.000 eases-; Port Nelson i 152,000 cases. INTEREST IN CLERGYMAN. WELLINGTON, May 21. There was a demonstration last night at. a" theatre where a service was being held by a clergyman, who is much in the public eye at present. Police and detectives were present, but the demonstration principally took the .form of an unusually large congregation, both inside and outside the -building. One woman caused,a little excite, ment bv trying to address the crowd. The clergyman in question took part earlier in,the day in the service at the funeral of the Chinese consul.

Burglars broke into the- Empire Theatre during the week-end and -rifled the safe of a considerable sum of money, which comprised Saturday night’s takings from that theatre and the Theatre Royal. JUDGAIENT IN AN INSURANCE CASE!. CHRISTCHURCH, Alay 21. Judgment in favour of certain policy holders in a dispute concerning an insurance scheme promoted twenty years ago under a tontine system was given by Air. Justice Adams to-day. lie held that an insured person who- had failed to pay the premiums lor. a period exceeding one year, and whose policy had been protected out of the surrender value, was entitled to participate in the profits of the fund, even if such policy were transfererd to trustees' of the fund ; also that an Insured person whose bonus' additions were more than sufficient to protect the policy until maturity was entitled to participate in the profits of the pool.
