POPULAR DAIRY INSTRUCTOR
ENTERTAINED BY FACTORY MANAGERS. PRESENTATION TO MR W l . GRANT SERA'ICE TO DAIRY INDUSTRY The high esteem in which Mr W. Grant was held ny factory managers as dairy instructor before taking oier his new appointment as chief grader at the port of Patea, was marked on ’Tuesday last, when about 24 factory managers and lriends met him at the grading works in Patea, afterwards adjoining to luncheon rooms. Representatives were present from nearly ah iactories in .South Taranaki; and numerous apologies were received from friends both in South and North Taranaki.
in proposing the health ol their guest, Air Illingworth said that although in Iris new position they did not see so much of Mr Grant as previously, he had not left the district altogether and for this they were glad. The managers of South Taranaki desired to place on record his work done amongst them Air Grant had been travelling round factories getting on for ‘2O years, and the best of feelings existed at all times between the managers and officers of the dairy division —it was through having officers of Air Grant’s stamp that such reeling prevailed. Each party appreciateu the other, and it was a matter for congratulation that such feelings existed. Years ago before they had a laboratory in Hawera much was done by Air Grant in getting factories better equipped to deal Avith supplies and his advice and work was of great service. His interest in the dairying industry, his genuine character, and friendliness had always been appreciated. Almost everyone present spoke on similar lines. Alessrs AlcQuinn, Thorburn, AloDonald and Fraser avlio had oldest recollections recalled a few incidents. Alusical honours were. sung. Air Grant very feelingly replied, and said whatever he had done had only been liis duty and that it had always been a pleasure to him to meet the different iactory managers on his rounds, as it still Avouid be Avhen they A’isited him at Patea. He refererd to big increase in production of the province and predicted that Avithin another 20 years it Avouid he doubled again. He concluded by thanking all for kind words and 'feeling towards .him, and on behalf of Airs Grant and himself thanked them for the present of a silver tea service. The gathering included 'All - A. McKenzie, Mr Stevens, grader (late of Wellington), and Mr Tennant. Items of song and story by Alessrs AlcDonald and Fraser concluded a pleasant afternoon.
