HOSPITAL WORK
TRIP TO THE NORTHERN CITY. A TARANAKI INSPECTION. With the desire to see what was being done in the public hospitals of Auckland and Hamilton, Mr. F. Giilanders, of Havvera, joined Messrs R. J. Deare and A. Gorki 11 (of the New Plymouth Board) and W. L. Kennedy (of the Stratford Board) in a trip, privately arranged and at their own expense, to the north. In both centres they were most hospitably received by the' medical superintendents and shown all over the hospitals, special attention being given to sqine improvements recent!v made. v ’
Speaking to a “Hawera Star” representative, Mr. Gillanders said the trip had been very interesting and the tourists had been met and treated in most courteous and friendly fashion by the superintendents. The new children’s ward at Auckland was of special interest to the Taranaki members, hut all enjoyed seeing the accommodation provided and all the latest devices installed. Mr. Gillanders said the scheme was well thought out and finished, hut he was more than ever convinced that Hawera had an excellent institution, equal to anything he had seen. All were impressed with the care taken on the hospital grounds at Hamilton, and were informed that the ladies of Hamilton had formed a Sunshine League, which undertook the care of garden plots. The trip, said Mr. Gillanders, had been most delightful and instructive. It was good, he added, to see wliat was being done in the hospitals in the larger centres.
