UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES.
OUTLINED IN ALLEGED BIGAMY CASE. (BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 15. An unusual story was told in the Ma-gi-stnate’-s Court when George Creasy appeared on a charge of comrhitting bigamy. The police alleged that Creasy married his first wife in England in 1919, the woman being the widow of a Frenchman. They came to New Zealand, and settled at Invercargill. 1 Not long afterwards the _ wife was granted ■ separation and maintenance.’ The husband did not obey the orders, and the woman grew desperate and attacked him, throwing a mixture of caustic soda- in his face. F-or. that offence the woman was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment-. She yas now Only free. During the past year it was alleged that the accused advertised for a wife and married a woman at Lincoln, styling himself a widower. Both women were in court and would -give evidence. Creasy pleaded not guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was alloyed.
