The Tokaora branch factory has, as from Saturday last, started taking in milk every other day. “I know something about the butterbuying businesvs myself,” said Mr. P. Budd at the Farmers’ Co-op. Society’s social on Saturday evening. “I married seventeen years ago, and I have been buying butter ever since.” Two launches, one owned by A. N. Breckon and the other by A. R. T. Jamieson, were visited by thieves at Shoal Bay, Northcote, during > Friday night, and -were stripped of all movable gear. A dinghy was aiso stolen. A later message from Auckland stated that further investigations .showed that a total of nine vessels were visited ;by thieves.

A deputation on. Saturday from the City West Ratepayers’ Association urged the Prime Alinister to expedite the consideration of charges made by Air W. H. Alurray, a. member of the Auckland City Council, with a view to having a. judicial inquiry concerning council administration. Air -Coates said the matter was one for the Internal Affairs Department, which -was -going thoroughly into the matter. Three additional .buildings are to be erected at the Tokanuf Mental Hospital at a ccst of £32,152. and the contract has been let. This extension is in accordance with the department’s policy of providing greater facilities for the classirication of mental patients. Each building will be of brick, two storeyed, and entirely selfcontained, accommodating about forty patients. The plans were prepared by a Government architect. While Mr. and Mrs. Wi Peri were returning home from Hawera on Saturday evening last in their gig, when near the corner of the Wailii and South lloads the horse slipped on the bitumen, throwing the occupants out (writes our Oliawe correspondent). Assistance was close at hand and luckily they escaped injury. After the horse was lifted it was found it also was uninjured and no damage was done to the gig. There was a complete hold up of the traffic for some time owing to the accident, ,a large number of motor ears returning from the races at the time. The remarkable pluck of a girl of nine years named Allen was demonstrated at Pihama on Wednesday (says the “Waimate Witness”). She was riding along the road on horseback, the animal having a set of cart harness on, and a. companion was riding a bicycle alongside. The handlebars of the machine became entangled in the harness and the hors© began to play up and bolt, the bicycle being kicked to pieces. The girl on the bicycle fell off unhurt, hut the one on horseback determinedly stuck to her mount and brought it to a standstill further along the road. When she got off she cried. “Is the bicycle damaged ?” Spectators stood helpless, expecting every instant to see the girl killed before their eyes. The annual meeting of the ,'Mangatoki branch of the New Zealand Earmens’ Union will be held on Thursday next at the Mangatoki hall, at 7.30 p.m.
