OHAWE BEACH.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) PERSONAL. Miss Bessie Carpenter, of Prebbleton, South Island, who has been paying a visit to Mr and Mrs Trask, Ohawe Beach, left on her homeward journey by mail train to-day. GENERAL. The(, natives have finished their potato and kumera digging, the yields being only fair. The grass is bearing a very healthy and green appearance—thanks to the recent rain. Owing to the shortage of material for the hauling at the boat shed very little work was done during the week. ' It is expected to have everytLing ready for a trial in a. day or two. The action of the Hawera County Council at their meeting on Saturday in reference to the roads to Ohawe Beach will be welcomed both by the ratepayers visitors. Or. Washer the representative for the Ohawe Riding, is the right man in the right place and from what transpired at Saturday’s meeting he is determined to get the requirements of the district brought to a successful issue, the prospects for which now look bright, should Or. /Washer’s suggestion regarding) ithe roads being made a county charge. iGiven good roads to the 'beach, ail that will be required will be for the Improvement 'Committee to keep on with the good work. The Rev. H. Curran, assisted by Mr T. Hurrell, held two services in the dining hall of the boat shed on Sunday, one for the natives - only in the afternoon, and one in the evening for both natives and Europeans. There was a good attendance at both services. Arrangements are being made to hold services from time to time at Chawe. Weather conditions being unfavourable, the fishing fleet have been unable to go out. The Waingongoro River shows very little alteration from last week, and is still running in 'close proximity to the boat shed. Several small slips from the cliff facing the sea during the Week have given the cliff a less dangerous appearance.
