FARMERS’ UNION AFFAIRS On Saturday evening the Auroa branch ot' the Fanners’ Union entertained the ladies’ organisation at a social in the Auroa L-lall. During the evening a combined meeting was held to discuss the business connected with the forthcoming Farmers’ Union ball. Arrangements were made to decorate the hall and to provide the usual banquet as a supper. Various tasks were allotted ami all present were keen to maintain the reputation ot the Auroa Farmers’ Ball, as an outstanding social event, of the South Taranaki farming community. SCHOOL GALA DAY. The Auroa iSchool Committee, 'together with a strong committee of hi dies are holding a gala day on Friday. May 4, to assist the school funds, to'purchase a piano for the school use. Arrangements are well in hand to provide the public with a good day’s sport and fun. -Novelty events, side-shows and stalls of all kinds have been oiganised, and given a fine day a large, crowd is expected. Owing to the inclement weather the householders’ meeting was so poorly attended that a new school committee was not elected, so this meeting will be called again at a date to be fixed by the WINTER GAMES. The local Soccer Club was defeated Ijv Stratford last Saturday, but by mistake a, short spell wag played so the game was not satisfactory. The local schoolboys were defeated by the Manaia School team on Saturday morn, ing. but did well to keep the score 8 to nil. The girls also were defeated at basketball by 13 points to 6, but they enjoyed their game.
