OTAKEHO HALL.
THE 'COMMITTEE’S WORK
ANNUAL MEETING.
There Avas a fair attendance of members of the hall committee present Avhen the annual review of the affairs of the committee Avas put before them last night at the hall, Mr E. R. Putt presiding. The annual report Avas as folloAA 7 s: — “In presenting the annual report and balance-sheet it appears most e\ T ident that this society 'has once again experienced a most successful and financial year. As disclosed by the balancesheet, the receipts show £69 1.7 s ‘2d and the expenditure £67 l‘7s 4d, leaving a credit balance of £1 19s dOd. The outstanding accounts totalling £4 7-s 6d brings the credit balance to a total of £6 7s 4d. This must be considered very satisfactory, as the expenditure has again been considerable, this year ’s expenditure khoAving £67 17s 4d as against £lOl 'l3s ‘9d for last year. Were it not for the very substantial credit of £24 17s 6d donated by the OSfeAV Year Ball committee this society would ha\"e been faced Avith the problem of making good the deficiency Avhiek Avould haA-e thus occurred. The position of the assets and liabilities is that the assets arc shoAvn as £777 14s Id, liabilities nil.
“During the year five euchre parties AA-ere held and proved to be a great success both socially and financially. No doubt members were aware that at the counting of the points after the final euchre party, a little ill feeling Avas caused, through one of the leading contestant’s points -cards being either misplaced or not handed in after the game. I Avould suggest that in fairness to all concerned, and in the eA 7 ent of the euchre parties being continued this coming year, that after every tourney each player personally place bis or her points card in a sealed tin, Avhich Avoulrl bo provided by the society, and this step no doubt Avill appeal to all players, and therefore leave little room for dissatisfaction.”
Piano. —This appears to be in a most satisfactory state of repair. Lighting. —'This year has been an exceptionally dry one and consequently Mr Mudford’s lights were available only very rarely. During the latter part of the year the society decided to dispose of Mr Mudford’s lighting system and purchase three benzine lights, which give a very satisfactory ( light and at a small expense. Proposed Kitchen Extension. —This has been and still is a long needed addition. During the year tenders were called for the extension of the kitchen, but owing to the seemingly high prices of the respective tenders, the society decided to proceed no further in the meantime, and at present nothing further has been done. The' incoming committee would undoubtedly be taking a Step in the right direction if it- decided to proceed further with this matter. Thanks.—The thank s of the society are due to those ladies who ’so. ably assisted to conduct the euchre parties run by the society and any other function for the benefit’ of- the hall. In conclusion I wish to thank you for the support and co-operation you ha\e (riven officers during their term ot office, and I sincerely hope the same help will 'be extended to those taking office this year. The chairman said that the most uigent work was the kitchen extension. The incoming committee should not lose sight of it, and he hoped to get it done iiT time for the coming season. Mr Maekie said the secretary and chairman were to be congratulated on the successful result of the year s working. A fairly good credit balance being shown. Mr E. T. Burke endorsed the remarks of Mr Maekie, special mention being made of the proceeds of the New Year ball (£24 14), which was the largest amount raised at any one function in the history of the hall. ',He also approved of the decision to add to the kitchen and believed they might get a lower tender now. They would then have a hall equal to any in the district. Ho congratulated the chairman and secretary on their work ‘and .said they were ably assisted by a good committee. The results were very satisfacMr L. G. Currie said he was disappointed at the small return from the euchre parties and he was surprised the secretary was able to secure a credit balance. He was pleased to see the committee had got the benzine The chairman remarked that no blame was attached to Air Mudford in connection with the lighting system, and he thanked him for what he had done for the hall.
