POULTRY INDUSTRY

YOUNG BIRD SHOW. A FINE DISPLAY. The second annual young bird show run by the Havvera Poultry Society was opened this afternoon at the Winter Show poultry pens, in the presence of a fair number oi’ visitors. The total entry was considered very satisfactory,1.65 all told, as compared with 116 last year. The work was distinctly of an educational character and intended as :i. feeder to the main show. In this it had been found that the result was listinctly good. The entries include 38 white and 14 brown Leghorns, 16 Orpingtons, 19 Minorca, 13 Rhode . Island Reds, 11 bantams, 3 white Wyandottes, 15 ducks, 1 white Plymouth Rock, 6 Andalusians, and 6 Sussex, with the balance in the children’s classes. A fine points prize, in the form of a handsome silver-mounted oak tray, has been given by Air. A. E. Gardener in place of the cup given by him and won outright last year. Special interest centred in the children’s classes, which brought out many excellent specimens of poultry; a marked feature being the bantams. The judges are Air J. B. Wilson, for light birds, and Air Don .Stewart, heavy breeds, and both wore very pleased with the display and complimented the .society and the exhibitors. ■Air A. Hopkins is honorary secretary, and his good organising work ensured that everything went with a good swing and without a hitch. PRIZE LIST. Black Orpington. —'Cockerel: L. iSheppard 1,2 and 3.
