LIFE-SAVING AWARDS. I by TEEEGRAPIi —PRESS ASSOCIATION. J CHRISTCHURCH, April 30 The following awards were made by the director® of the Royal Humane Society to-day: James Lindsay Mebalski, school boy, aged 14 years, for attempting to rescue another boy from drowning in the freezer dam, Burnside, on April 19, 1927, was awarded a certificate of merit.
Kauwahata Hereaka, aged 23 years, who rescued a boy from drowning in Lake Taupo on January 8, was awarded a bronze medal. Morrell Rdwe and Grace Rowe, Palmerston. North, who rescued two young women from drowning' at Tangamoana on January 25, were awarded certificates of merit. George Justin Walker, of Remuera, aged 14 years, who attempted to rescue hi.s father from drowning in the Tongariro River on February 2, was awarded a certificate of merit. Arthur John Elling, for attempting to rescue a schoolboy from drowning at the Pate a. bridge on December 26, was awarded a certificate of merit. _ It was decided to forward an. in memoriam certificate to the relatives of the late Percy White, Onehunga, who died while attempting to rescue a. boy from drowning in Manuk an Harbour on January 30. A certificate of merit was awarded Miss Vide Weir, of Bluff, for rescuing a man from drowning at Bluff in * Februarv.
