GOLF

MANAIA OPENS SEASON.

With weather conditions, all in favour of golf, the official opening of .the season was celebrated .at Manaia Jinks on Saturday. There was a large attendance of players,' including'four from Hawera. iVjl spent a. most initeersting and enjoyable time.

At the conclusion of •the play, the president (iMr A. M. Hannah), tin. declaim"'the season open, proffered a, warm and cordial welcome- to visiting players, and expressed the pleasure of t-lie committee that the season had begun so well,. He said he wa® glad that the membership had increased, and was confident they were going to have a goo.d season. In that hope’ he had the grc-atest pleasure, in declaring the 'links open for the 1928 sealeon. Mr Hay-Mackenzie, speaking for the visitors. Expressed the pleasure they felt at taking part in the opening, and congratulated the Manaia •Club on their continued growth, and wished, on. behalf of the Ha w era Club , that the 1928 season would be a most sue«3ssful and enjoyable time for all the members'. The mixed foursomes, 9 j hole®, playedduring the afternoon, resulted in a win for Mass Blair and Blair, with a gross score of ! 48. several others being close to that totaiT.

A dainty afternoon tea was served by tho ladies, and’ a very jolly afternoon, spent.
