CYCLE RACING
KAPONGA CLUB. THRILLING FINISH OF SENIOR EVENT. Tiio Kaponga, Cycle Club held two road races on Saturday, senior and junior events. The course tor the former was twice round the Palmer Road, a distance of 22 miles. The scratch men caught the field early and made the pace when, nearing home. Results. E. Stockman (Elthani, 3min), riding time- 58min 45see 1 H. Bbcock (Kaponga, 2min.), time 57m"m. 46sec .: 2 E. Afoa (Mangawhero, 2min.), time is7min. 47sec • « • A good finish," six out of tlie seven riders finishing in a. bunch ; one of the best sprints seen for a long time. Those off the 2min. mark were the virtual scratch iiders. Bocock gained fastest time. JUNIOR RACE. The junior rhee ,was held over an 18-mile 'course, round the Auroa Road block. There were 10 starters. ■Results:— H. Thorpe (3min.), riding time 49miu. 13see 1 X G. Williams (oinin.), ulmiii. 31sec. 2 G. Johns (2fmin.), 49min. T7soc. ... 3 A good finish between the three placed men, the winner also gaining fastest time from the virtual scratch men, Hosie and Murphy, defeating them by live seconds.
