Maori assistant-bishop to exercise episcopal supervision of the work of t‘he ( Church of England among - the native people, as recommended by the special committee, was v approved today by tlie General Synod, after a lengthy discussion lasting the whole of the morning. ‘ : \ \ An amendment, that iu order to prepa re the way _ for . the consecration of Maori bishops in future one or mote Maori archdeacons' shall be appointed to co-ordinatq. and unify the Maori work in the Dominion, was lost in committee, and the Bishop of Waiapu’s motion was carried. A'bill to give effect to the resolution will now be introduced in General Synod.
