THREE SHOPS DESTROYED AT BLENHEIM. IBY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION ] BLENHEIM, April 27. Fire to-night destroyed three shops in Charles Street, part of a large block belonging to the Wensley estate. The fire' originated in a shop occupied as an office by H. R. Rogers, commission agent, and spread to Jim Lee’s laundry on the one side and to Mrs. M. L. Ci •esswell’s home and cookery shop on the other side. All these premises were gutted, though Airs. Cresswell’s was not so much damaged as the other two. In addition the stock in Miss Reiman's millinery , shop was damaged by smoke and water. The insurance' on the ~ buildings, which were part of an extensive wooden structure, are unknown. The fire brigade made a. great save, as the three shops were virtually destroyed before they reached the scene. At one time it looked as if nothing could save the block. BLAZE AT DTJNEDIN. QUANTITY OE"FIREWOOD LOST. DUNEDIN, April 23. Extensive damage was occasioned by fire yesterday in Blazer Firewood Company’s wooden building in South Dunedin. Included in the loss were ten tons of firewood and two motor trucks. The need for protection acainst. fir,> ’--iss is obvious. Consult the Mercantile and General Insurance Company. Ltd.
