BOTH GUILTY

KENNEDY AND BROWNE. SENTENCED TO DEATH. GUTTEREDGE CASE ENDED. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—BY ELECTKII TELEG RA PH—COP YRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN PRESS ASSOCIATIONUNITED SERVICE.) Received 9.40 a.m. to-day LONDON, April 27. Mr. Justice Avory,* in summing up in the Gutteridge case, reminded the jury that Kennedy’s statement was evidence against himself alone, not against Browne. He was satisfied that he did not err in refusing the application to giant separate trials. He had sufficient confidence in the jury’s sense of justice to know that Browne would not be prejudiced by the fact that they were tried together. Received 10.50 a.m. to-day.

Brown and Kennedy were found guilty and both were sentenced to death.
