The effect on the cost of bread, bacon and eggs of the- new duties. on iwheat, flour and- maize- is. the subject of an ‘interesting analysis bv the Alinister of Customs (tlio Hon. W. Downie Stewart). In replv to correspondence from the Auckland* Chamber of Commerce, the Alinister says that no alteration has been made in the duty on wheat offal, and no fowl wheat- has been admitted free to the Dominion since Alarch. 1927. Ground and crushed maize was now exempt from duty. POLITICAL RUMOURS. CHRISTCHURCH, April 26. All-.
